Seating Positions

Seating positions are regarding as important to some professional players. Players who are seated in a position where they act first at the start of the game is seated in the Early Position. Players seated thereafter are seated in the Middle Position and the players seated at the end are seated in the Later Position.

Where there are 10 players seated at a game, the first three players are seated in the Early Position, the next four players are then seated in the Middle Position and the last three players are seated in the Late Position. The player seated on the left of the Button is called the Small Blind and the player to his/her left is called the Big Blind. The third player seated to the left of the Button is called Under the Gun.

Players who are seated in the Late Position have the advantage in that they are able to view all the betting movements of their fellow players first and thereby giving them a heads up as to how the game could run. The disadvantage for the Blind/Early Positions is that they are the first to place their bets.

These position are not necessary static for the entire game depending on the game you are playing – In the case of the most common poker game of Texas Holdem, after each round of betting the button moves to the next player thus moving all the start position by one so that each player has a turn to be the button. Having said that, by being seated in the Late Position, by the time the button reaches you you may well have had a number of the players fold on the game which then changes the odds in a positive manner.
